#LIGHTtheWORLD: Christmas-in-a-Box Free Printable Kit from Brightly Street

Christmas is a time to spread the love of our Savior and that is why we are helping spread the word about the mormon.org campaign called #LIGHTtheWORLD.  This is all about finding simple ways to serve others.  So Sugardoodle has teamed up with some amazing bloggers who have created free printable kits to help you spread kindness to those around you.

Melia at Brightly Street has come up with a Christmas in a Box kit for you to use.  This free printable kit can be sent to someone who is away for the holidays or can just cheer up a friend. It would be fun to make as family too.  Here is Melia with more info about her printables:

All of the instructions and printables are completely FREE to use, however you will not find them here on Sugardoodle.  Instead we have shared them with some fabulous LDS bloggers and site owners who have each taken these printables and used them in their own way.  You can find them by visiting the #LIGHTtheWORLD main page and clicking on one of the supporting site links.  This list is growing daily, so check back often!

We are so grateful to Melia at Brightly Street for sharing her talents and creating these free printables!  Merry Christmas!

Our Family Printable

Untitled-6-01

For family night, think about gathering your family together and create a list of family guidelines you want to strive to live by. I say strive, as they are goals to reach for and we all know that on any given day, someone in the family is out of whack or the day just doesn’t go well. Chin up… tomorrow is a new beginning. (Note: Hence the Fight and Forgive on the list). Family life can be messy, but we are in this together and there is no place we would rather be. Think of this as a living, breathing document and as you hold family councils, look at the list you have created and add or subtract items, depending upon your needs. Every family is different with our own unique set of strengths and weaknesses…  print out your list and have everyone in the family sign and frame it ! Find it here

Have a wonderful day! Brenda

The ultimate printable song book for Girls Camp

In addition to teaching Gospel Doctrine in my home ward I also have the fabulous job of planning camp for 25 young women this summer. Before I planned a single meal or even decided on a theme, I set my sights on one simple task…creating the perfect printable camp song book.

MM Camp Song Book 1 750x750-01

I’m a big believer in camp songs. I know they seem cheesy and dated but I whole-heartedly believe that teaching a group of girls to embrace ridiculousness for a few minutes has huge power. It loosens them up and helps them let go of their cliques and enjoy a little YW unity.

Of course none of this works if the songs themselves are lame. Kumbuya just won’t do it. You need songs with attitude and spunk. In this book I’ve kept many of the classics like Sippin’ Cider, the Princess Pat and The Banana Song (shown here)

but I’ve also added a few fun new songs like this great YW song set to the melody of ‘Cups’.

In addition to the fun and crazy songs, I’ve also included the lyrics to several hymns so you’ll be all set for devotionals and testimony meetings.

Remember, if any of the songs in the book are unfamiliar, you can find most of the actions and melodies by searching their titles on YouTube (or watching MeckMom.com in the coming weeks).

Youth Cell Phone Signs

AirplaneModePicHi friends,
Any of us that teach youth know how awesome it can be, but that it also comes with many challenges. One particular challenge that I hear from just about everyone who teaches in a youth setting is the great Cell Phone Debate.  Cell phones are a HUGE part of our everyday lives, as well as the youth we teach.  So the question is, do electronics have a place in a church setting? How do you handle it in your wards? Today, I am not here to debate that question, rather, I am offering some help.

I have created two different sets of printables for you.  These are great to use in your classroom, during your activities, or even in the home for Family Home Evening or dinner time.

The first printable is a sign reminding the youth to set their phones in airplane mode.  When phones are in airplane mode, there is not the temptation to do things online, or to look at notifications.  This way, they can still look up scriptures and talks, but hopefully won’t be browsing social media. This option can help teach how to use your phones responsibly and teaches youth to be familiar with gospel apps. You can purchase this set here.

The second set / option is a sign requesting phones go into a basket.  I’ve heard many leaders say this works great for them.  Sometimes having a treat next to the basket and sign is an added incentive. Using this option eliminates the distraction of technology. This kit is available for purchase here.

Each kit comes with 5 different color options, and is available as an 8.5×11 sign, as well as 5×7.

CellBasketPicEach ward and each class is different, so prayerfully decide how to handle electronics in your classroom and during weekly activities. This article is a great resource regarding using electronics.  Take a minute and read it over.

Heart,
Melanie B.
