Activity Ideas while at camp - some good ideas!
Compass Activity
Me, You and Community by Nicole Ferguson

 Treasure Hunt by Lisa Moss
We did this at Girl's Camp, after we came back from our hike. We had two small wading pools, filled with warm water and a foot scrub, While half of us soaked our piggies, the other half did a basic oatmeal and olive oil facial. We had cucumber slices for our eyes. Each girl was given a folded washcloth tied with ribbon, they were folded with a pocket in the front containing a facial "recipe book" with facials for different types of skin, and a white rubber Young Women bracelet with flowers in pastel value colors. Meanwhile back at the foot soak, there was lotion for our feet and polish to do pedicures. All the while we had a CD of relaxing spa type music playing. The girls loved it so much that we are making it an after hike camp tradition. (Idea by Peggy Adams)

Smorritos - They are a variation of a recipe I got off a YW Yahoo Group a year ago, and they are amazing!  Here's what we do: put a flour tortilla on a piece of foil. Spread butter on the tortilla, then add chocolate chips and marshmallows. Roll up like a burrito, wrap the foil around it, and throw it in the fire for 2-3 minutes. Some girls like to add peanut butter or bananas--there are lots of possibilities. I was calling them Smore Wraps, but one of the counselors in the bishopric took one look at it and called it a "Smorrito". And the name stuck. I also served them at the Camp After-Party where we invite the parents to hear all about camp. see the slide show, hear the songs, etc. They were a hit there too.  (by Kristen Black)

MAILBOX IDEAS:

Camp Mailbox idea from Beehive Messages
Camp Mailboxes by Krysta McClure
We have used empty #10 cans, painted them and nailed them to a 2X4 in rows and that is their mail box. The girls decorate the lids with their names on them. Some years we put them next to their tents and other years we've put them all together near the cooking area.  We used the same ones over and over each year and painted them to go with whatever theme we were using.  For example the year our theme was "We Are All Enlisted" we put them all together and painted them camouflage.  The year we were Bee'utiful we painted them yellow and put them in a beehive shape.  A great thing about these is there is so little cost.  We just asked the RS if anyone had empty cans we could have and them we bought new lids.  By the way they are nailed to the board though the bottom so they are lying sideways.  (Idea by Lori Terril / ga05172007)

Instead of dying the shirts, we used colored shirts and removed the dye with bleach. With tape or stickers, the girls made designs on the t-shirts and with supervision by using spray bottles with bleach in them to remove the color. They come out very nicely. I wonder how the new bleach pens would work?? (Idea by Cheryl Redner)

PJ's Time - The girls in our stake just got home from girls camp, and I heard that they has a PJ'S time every day (Prayer, Journals, and Scripture study). The girls did not come in their PJ'S...it was just 20 minutes set aside every day for this purpose. I heard that it really was a quiet time. The girls really utilized their time to do what they were suppose to instead of visiting with each other. I thought that was a wonderful idea and wanted to share.  (Shared by Janis Peterson / ga07272008)

We have what is called the "snickers" box and some slips of paper next to it. When a girl sees another girl do something funny they put write it down on the paper and put it in the box. They get to take a mini snickers for adding to the box. Then, every night, we read the "snickers" and vote on who has the best one and that person receives a giant Snickers candy bar. It is one of the highlights of the night. (Idea by Kerry)
Wizard of Oz - We bought ribbon and beads and with Shrinky dinks we stamped a fire, smiley face, wrote their names, a band aide for first aide, I found a picture of a scare crow as was what our ward was, just whatever we felt the girls would be passing off or doing.   I had about 10 Shrinky dinks in all.  The girls loved making the necklace and it gave them something to do in down time!! :D Hi
It's mach here from New Zealand, I currently serve as the 1st Counselor in Hastings 2nd Ward YW Presidency. I am a mother of 10, and I just love all the wonderful idea's on sugardoodle!
Thank you for all your wonderful talent and time in sharing with us.

  • Deby Napier  - New Zealand Temple

    Hello,
Our Stake Girl's Camp theme is "Stand Ye in Holy Places" and each ward has to pick a Temple outside of our country (USA) and make our camp totally about that country. We chose your beautiful New Zealand. I am wondering if you could share any info about your country....local food fare, customs, native people's, language and the such.......some famous people and quotes would be awesome!!!

Any help at all would be great!

    Thanks in advance!!

    Deby Napier

I love all the collaboration on this site. Your ideas are great and it simplifies things for all of us.

I just wanted to point out a design resource too, If anyone wanted to make their camp handouts etc. Primp My Album is a simple online designer and it's easy to use.

Just another resource to add to the hundreds you have put together.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
this is a really good site.

  • mostewart

If you want to add an interesting twist to you meal at camp try a "Wheel of Doom".You spin the wheel and whatever your spin lands on determines the utensil you get to eat with. For instance, if you are having a Boot Camp or MASH camp all the spaces would be military rankings. A General would get to eat with knife, fork and spoon but I Private would have to eat with NO utensils. You can see pictures and get more information at www.familyreunionhelper.com

  • avia

great site! we do secret sister gifts in our stake and i'm having trouble thinking of ideas. things like jewelry, glowsticks, and candy would be good but i'd love something outside of the box. any suggestions?

and also, some girl's camp themes that we've had are "anchored in righteousness, sailing in service" and "many hearts, one faith"

  • olosega

I have payed for it but it is not comming through as a download and has not come in the mail. There is no number or direct email to get a hold of the company. I really would like to get a hold of this asap! what should I do?

  • Chey

  • Abbie

our girls camp theme this year is a DUDE ranch which stands for Daughters United in Divine Excellence, its such a cute theme, the girls are excited to wear their best western wear and our ward color is faith, so our name of our camp is the Faithful Bloomers and we have a pair of white bloomers as our flag! its so cute and an easy theme!

  • Linda Garrard

Years ago we did a spiritual activity at camp and we had the girls walk individually down a dark path with a lit candle as their only source of light. They had to keep their flame burning to see the path. We had sisters stationed along the path with a big candle and the girls had to make their way to them if their candle burned out. The point was that there would always be someone along the way that will help us build up our spirits if we stay in tune. It was so spiritual and we all met together for testimony meeting at the end. I am trying to find a copy of the message that was given during this activity and I am hoping someone out there might have it. Thanks, Linda

  • Kathryn Lawrence  - Spiritual Activity

I am looking for a similar activity that we did years ago at camp. It was a walk down a darkened path and each group would meet a wood princess. This princess ywould turn her light and give a lesson on keeping spiritual and keeping nature beautiful.
It would end with all girls sitting around a fire and the 1sr year girls were presented with a necklace or bracelet from the 4th year girls.
I would love to find this again for our girls.

  • Lolly Jane

Thanks BIG for adding our site to the CG section! :) You're the best, Mel! xoxo

  • karen morford  - Mail at girls camp song

Hi all, I am looking for a new "mail" song for girls camp. the one we have sung in the past, is the here we sit like birds in the wilderness (we have changed the "waiting for our M-A-I-L" to waiting for our M-A-L-E) our stake president has asked us to take away the boy focus. so I was looking for a new mail song... any ideas??

  • Lora McConnell

No, but why don't you make some cookies for your favorite little sister? Really, I want cookies!

  • Aubrey  - Question/favor

Last September I was on Sugardoodle for Girls Camp ideas. I found a theme called "Tribes of Truth". It was an Indian theme, and the person who posted mentioned that they had carved totem poles out of telephone poles to decorate camp. She had lots of cool ideas, which we are using a lot of them. Our site is the Freemont Indian State Park group site. It is nice and big, but is super plain. I need some decorations!!! I am having a really hard time finding big decor. If you are on here...do you still have your totem poles or any of your decor? Help!!!!!

  • Aubrey

Need decor ideas for an Indian themed camp!!! I saw a previous link to a "Tribes of Truth" themed camp with totem poles, etc. anyone know this person???

  • Aricka

This is the coolest site ever I think I will use if for my girls camp weather the leaders like it or not!!!!! :0

  • Natalie Pickett  - FROZEN Theme Girls Camp

We're sharing tons of ideas for doing a FROZEN themed Girls Camp at www.lets-get-together.com.

Activities, decor, devotionals, treats, it's all there or will be coming soon!

  • ladyrip2001  - Help!

I was just called today as our branch Camp Director. I can use all the help I can get.

I found out that the theme this year is Discover the Beauty Within, based on "Beautiful" by Jenny Phillips. Anybody have any ideas for this?
