  • Melissa J.  - I Know Heavenly Father Loves Me Jar

We are going to make the Heavenly Father loves me jar suggested in the front of the 2013 outline (see page 2). It suggests using beans, cotton balls, or pebbles, but I found a super quick, free, crocheted heart pattern online. The hearts take me about a minute to make and they use up a lot of my scrap yarn. We are going to let the kids choose a heart to add to the jar when they come up to share how they know Heavenly Father knows them or loves them.

Gauge isn't really important for this pattern, so the hearts can be a variety of sizes...but I used a size G crochet hook and various weights and types of yarns. (bulky, sport weight, eyelash, sock yarn, worsted, wool, etc,)

    Heart:

Round 1: Ch 4. Make all of the next stitches in the first ch. 3 trc, 3 dc, ch 1, 1 trc, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 trc, ch 2, sl st in center. Fasten off. Tie ends in a square knot and clip.

  • Crista H.  - Heavenly Father Loves Me Journal

We have given each child a spiral notebook that they will use as their journal for the year where they will write down moments during the week that they recognized the Lord's love for them. We will bring them out every Sunday and give them a few minutes to either draw a picture or write an experience from their week. We hope that through this, they will become more aware of the Lord in their day to day lives.

  • Rebecca G.  - just a little addition to the ideas....

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas! I took some of them a few steps further and made a treasure hunt going through the plan of Salvation-- Below are the clues I used, then I had the treasure be the paper with the message and I gave them a copy of the Plan, and a white chocolate--white and pure can enter Celestial Kingdom.

The pre-mortal life is the very beginning, so just take a look above where you’re sitting. (ceiling fan)

Then you were born and here to Earth you came, so now you must go to where the Prophets are named. (Picture of general authorities)

From earth you must die, to the Spirit World you go, look where the pianist plays all the songs that you know. (piano)

After the Spirit World you’ll be resurrected for sure, look for the next clue near the large glass door. (outside door)

Next you’ll be judged if you did wrong or right, so now you must look where you turn on the light. (light switch)

Now to the Celestial Kingdom we’ll go if we’re able, let’s look for our trea...
