  • Peggy R. Biesinger  - teaching A Child's Prayer

    Hi,

I'm a new Primary Chorister and am a little nervous about teaching A Child's Prayer because it is a two part song. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Peggy

We plan to have the children sing the first verse and then have the teachers/leaders sing the second. In Primary they have been having fun singing it as a round.

For our sacrament meeting program our chorister is having some of the mom's sing the 2nd part and the kids sing the 1st part.

  • Patsy Dunn  - Child's Prayer

Our chiuldren love this song. They all sing the each verse, then the girls sing the first verse and the boys sing the second verse together.

This was my favorite song as a child. I loved that we the primary children would sing the 1st verse and the teachers the 2nd. The best part was when we would all sing our parts at the same time! You can see it done that way here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNe3Ea3eyNI on Youtube. A Child's Prayer,Janice Kapp Perry (composition).

In our Primary we are having the children sing the first part and the teachers sing the second part.

Last week, we had a substitute music leader who had taught music for many years. She began music time by having the children sing an easy song in a round (like row, row, row your boat). That helped them practice singing different parts. Then she discussed how similar a child's prayer was and went into going over the parts then singing it together. It was ingenious!

  • Leah Mae  - August's Theme

I love how inspired our monthly themes are in primary so much I had to write about it on my blog.

    http://soyouthinkyoucanlearn.blogspot.com/2013/07/ august-sharing-time-theme.html

I've also included a few talks and ideas I am inspired by that may help you get in the "mood" for inspiring those you are teaching.

    Have a great month,
    Leah

  • Mary  - Writing the Primary PRogram

I am a new primary president - any hints on writing the Primary Sacrament Program?

  • Brooke Crane

    Hi Mary,
This year what I have done with my presidency is divided each monthly theme up between us. We decided which classes would be assigned to each and for the extra we are using them as topics for talks.
For each monthly theme we are coming up with two questions, we are asking each child one of the questions and recording their answers, prompting and explaining where necessary but mostly in their own words and their own testimony recording their feelings.
So instead of us telling them what to say we are having them 'write' the program for us.
For the next few weeks we are pulling the kids out during their class time to get their answers and I am then putting it all in order with the songs.
    Hope this helps.

If you do a search in Sugardoodle you will see one that has already been submitted. Here is the link. http://www.sugardoodle.net/joomla/index.php? option=com_content&view=article&id=9870:2013- primary-program-scripts&catid=5364:other

I hope this helps. In our ward we are using the theme for each month along with the song. We are going to use a few talks that we have collected over the year as well.
